Aconcagua is the highest mountain in the Western hemisphere, located in Western Argentina, close to the border of Chile. The Andes mountain range is the world longest on and Aconcagua is the highest Andes summit at almost 23,000 feet. There are approximately 3.500 climbers testing the summit every year.
The "normal" route is not technical, an easy walking ascent while following the north-western ridge. It is the altitude which poses the major difficulty but with the supervision and expertise of a UIAGM-IFMGA mountain guide from World Wide Mountain Guide .
Climbers should not underestimate the difficulty of altitude. Most of the ascent is on scree falls. On the normal crossing routes and the Polish route, there is no permanent field of snow, but crampons and ice axe can still be necessary in some sections. If you are lucky, the final 300 meters (984 feet) are covered with ice and snow. You can then crampon upwards much more easily than in the scree falls after a dry winter.
